The team chat platform lets people look up the best coworkers to talk to on specific subjects

Finding the right person to contact at a big company or organization can be a daunting task, and trial and error can mean delays in getting questions answered and tasks fulfilled. Team chat platform Slack is looking to connect employees across companies for whatever tasks they may need with an updated search function. Available for paying customers with over 50 employees, the function allows a user to simply search for a topic and get results showing people who typically talk about that subject. Of course, this kind of search will only use public challenges, and not private messages, in order to protect people's privacy.

“There’s a lot of information out there for you and your team to keep up with,” Isaiah Greene, product lead for Slack's Search Learning & Intelligence (SLI) group, which developed the new search function, told VentureBeat. “Oftentimes, you may not know where to start searching or who you can reach out to to help move work forward. Search in Slack now shows you the people and channels most likely to be of help to your query so you can quickly get the information you need and do your best work.”
