The brand's live OS includes an app and dashboard to give employees data-based insights on their day and health

Design manufacturer Herman Miller has announced a human-centered system of connected office furniture. Live OS is a subscription-based service with an app and dashboard offering data-based insights to help understand employees needs in the workplace.

Live OS connects a range of Herman Miller furnishings, including sit-to-stand and fixed height desks. These desks are equipped with cloud-connected sensors that can sense people, send data on desk utilization, and respond in new ways. They can be programmed to remember preferred postures and the amount of time a person wants to spend sitting and standing. The desk control can light up and vibrate to remind people to change postures, helping them achieve goals for increasing activity.

The sensors send anonymized real-time data to the cloud, which is then analyzed and delivered in the form of evolving insights in order to enhance workplace performance by helping to control operational costs, improving space utilization, and boosting employee health, performance, and happiness.

The Live OS system is initially available in North America as part of a suite of services within Herman Miller’s Living Office, which aims to create workplaces that bring real advantage and proven outcomes to people and organizations.

Greg Bylsma, President of Herman Miller North America, said in a press release:

“Live OS is an example of how Herman Miller continues to evolve to better serve our customers as they increasingly look to the workplace to drive their own business transformation. With decades of experience in human-centered design, we’re introducing services like Live OS, to help our customers create workplaces that empower, energize and perform.”
