There has been an influx of research that proves that experiences bring more happiness than material goods. Millennials especially place a lot of value on experiences and this is evident in their spending—people are willing to pay to experience something amazing (that can also be displayed on social media as well). Recognizing this, Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), have created what they call the master class series. These classes consist of personal interactions with major players in sports, cooking and entertainment.

The first collection of this ongoing series includes learning basketball from NBA star Dwayne Wade, cooking with chef Eric Ripert, mastering golf swings with golfer Annika Sörenstam and taking surf lessons with Laird Hamilton. These unique experiences allow people to meet highly skilled and famous people and learn from the best in their respective fields. Additional classes include special underwater photography tutorials.

“Our members believe life is an adventure worth pursuing,” said David Flueck, Senior Vice President of Global Loyalty, Marriott International. “We’re focused on taking the best of Marriott’s loyalty programs—including our partnerships and extraordinary portfolio of hotels—and stepping it up with master classes that provide transformative experiences travelers cannot get anywhere else.”

Master classes are redeemable through loyalty points and offerings will expand with time. They will be available in numerous Marriott International’s hotels and properties around the world. Marriott Rewards and SPG want to continue to provide experiences that allow people to learn more and have authentic experiences that will be permanently ingrained into their memory. They already have the Moments platforms that gives members access to multiple experiences that are already enticing. The new master classes are one step up to providing the ultimate travel experience.
