A radio-enabled bicycle bell alerts drivers to share the road, helping bikers travel safely

What’s the best way for cars and bikes to share the road? Polish insurance company AXA found a solution in the Smart Bell. This connected bell beams through to car radios to make sure cycle bells are heard.

AXA is using the radio-enabled Smart Bell to market its bicycle insurance. Bicycles are relatively silent and therefore vulnerable on the road. A driver listening to music in the car will easily miss the weak sounds of cycle bells.

Once triggered, the Smart Bell uses RDS technology to travel through nearby car radio systems. Even if a driver is playing music, the cycle bell will disrupt it with its sound. The Smart Bell also doubles as a rear light, for another safety feature.
