By engaging directly with the worldwide developer community, Amazon is seeding interest in building for its Alexa platform

Amazon and Intel are investing in the developer community with the event series Alexa Dev Days, which trains new and advanced developers to build for Alexa. The events, run by Amazon and sponsored by Intel, will teach developers through hands-on learning experience focused on building skills in programming for Alexa devices to create everything from smart home apps to games.

The event series will begin in Seattle before rolling out in other major U.S. cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Austin and Miami, as well as more locations around the world. By offering developers an “immersive learning opportunity,” Amazon aims to build interest in its Alexa platform and solidify its presence in the voice computing market. An Amazon trainer will lead the sessions, starting by walking developers through Amazon's skill-building design tool and AWS Lambda, followed by an overview of the design process. With Amazon set to control the majority of the voice-controlled speaker market this year, companies like Google and Apple are now playing catch-up.
