The new social platform offers a place for customers to discover new products from other users with similar interests

Amazon has launched a new feature in its iPhone app that lets users find, follow and share their interests. Amazon Spark is like a social network for product discovery—with a feed of shoppable photos. If users are looking for inspiration for home decor or advice about the best long-distance running shoes, Spark makes it easy for them to discover and shop stories and ideas from a community with similar interests.

When users first join, they are asked to select at least five interests to follow. The various options include books, style and fashion, food, technology, home decor, beauty, recipes and video games. Spark then creates a feed of personalized content featuring related products, images and ideas.

Users can get advice and feedback from the community and interact with others by leaving comments and ‘smiles’ on their posts. They can also create their own posts by scrolling to the top of the feed and sharing a product or story, so avid travelers or those with a love of cooking can help others by sharing their expertise on products and experiences. Users are encouraged to tag products featured in their posts if they are available on Amazon, allowing others to purchase the products by tapping on the image.

When a photo contains a product available from Amazon, there will be a shopping bag icon in the bottom right corner and a number indicating the amount of items in the image that Amazon sells. Users can shop their feed by simply tapping the shopping bag in the photo to discover and purchase items that have been tagged by visiting the product page on Amazon.

Spark is part of the Amazon App for iPhone. It can be found in the main menu of the Amazon App for iPhone by tapping ‘Programs and Features,’ then ‘Amazon Spark.’ While all customers can view the posts on Spark, if they want to post or comment they need to be in the U.S. and have a paid Prime membership.
