The food brand came out with a 'Chicago Dog Sauce' to trick unsuspecting city dwellers into adding ketchup to their Chicago-style hot dogs

If you’re from Chicago, you know never to put ketchup on your hot dog. A traditional Chicago-style hot dog gets topped with yellow mustard, chopped onions, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices and pickled sport peppers, with a pinch of celery salt.

To cater to the residents of the Windy City, Heinz released an alternative tomato-based sauce called ‘Chicago Dog Sauce’ in celebration of National Hot Dog Day on July 18. For the campaign, Heinz created a reaction video of Chicagoans adding the new sauce to their already full hot dogs to see what the purists thought of it. However, when the people in the video were nearly finished eating Heinz revealed that ‘Chicago Dog Sauce’ was in fact regular ketchup.

Some Chicagoans felt the addition wasn’t half bad, while others had harsher words for it.
