In Brief

The infographics offer an overview of local transportation in cities like Toronto, Seattle and Chicago

Graphic designer Peter Dovak has created a visual representation of the public transit options in 24 cities in North America. He began the project last year when he moved to Washington D.C. and was struck by the variety of options for local commuters. The illustrations are available online, for order as prints and in a searchable database.

Dovak eventually expanded to other cities, from Toronto and Seattle to Los Angeles and Vancouver. His illustrations reflect the character of each city, as unique color combinations and vehicle designs lend personality to the differing modes of transport across the continent.

“There are a number of modes out there, a few you might not expect,” Dovak told Co.Design. “Monorails, interurbans, aerial gondolas, people movers, funiculars—some are just novelties, but others are still core pieces of the city’s transit network.”
