In our latest report, the Future of Health, we explore how the role of data in healthcare has evolved from a static into a living profile that grows with patients. To help bring the ideas and actionable take-aways to life, PSFK invited creative studios to leverage report findings and ideate new ways to approach health. The following is a concept from Artefact Group, which set out to reimagine how patients can gain access to health services.

Challenge:

Technology has changed the way we work, shop, bank, meet others and even order coffee. But despite how advancements like machine learning, big data, ubiquitous computing and universal connectivity have forever changed these everyday interactions, our experiences with healthcare remain stuck in a disconnected, opaque and rigid past.

In healthcare today, patients are forced into the same service structures whether they are managing a chronic condition or have encountered an undiagnosed issue. Clinicians often don’t have access to useful patient data, which remains siloed within disparate sources. And as a society, we allocate healthcare resources without being able to evaluate their impact because we don’t link actions to outcomes.

Solution:

AIM is a concept of a service platform that sets the foundation for positive health outcomes by delivering better care experiences and new, flexible models of discovery, understanding and intervention.

The platform:

  • Increases patient engagement through seamless and automated care experiences that align to individual needs and fit into the flow of life.
  • Facilitates more effective connections between clinicians and patients, based on multi-source, continuous data.
  • Helps the industry appropriately allocate resources to cost and returns by creating transparency between actions and outcomes.

AIM leverages artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles and augmented interaction to create new models of patient engagement and healthcare service delivery.

Augmented, Automated, Accessible Assessment

  1. Immersive Environment with an array of diagnostic technologies gives a fuller picture: The AIM autonomous vehicle is optimized for patient self-guided assessment with bridge diagnostics. The floor of the vehicle is a pressure-sensitive scale to measure weight, BMI, balance and posture. A seat conducts an acoustic analysis of respiration. Lighting is controlled to optimize the assessment based on image recognition technology.
  1. Augmented Interactions enable people to work with complex diagnostic technologies using natural gestures: AIM uses “augmented interactions” so the patient can easily interface with the immersive environment and tools presented in the vehicle. Motion-sensing technology paired with augmented reality displays helps the user call attention to symptoms in a natural way, both verbally and with gestures, and enables confirmation that the system understands what has been communicated.
  1. Self-Guided Bridge Diagnostics collect detailed information about patients: After initial assessment, AIM offers multiple diagnostics that bridge the passively monitored and actively tested quantitative biometric data. Surround displays give real-time AI-driven instructions.
