A website where artists based in Tokyo create magazine covers about what they think makes the city and Japanese culture special

Illustrator Andrew Joyce and designer David Robert are inviting illustrators in Japan to work on covers for The Tokyoiter, a Japanese take on The New Yorker.

Instead of current events, The Tokyoiter highlights what artists love most about Tokyo and Japanese culture, while also paying homage to images adorned on the front of The New Yorker. Each of the illustrations feature an exclusive piece of art and an artist statement.

The Tokyoiter was founded in 2016 as a simple project with three covers, but now the website contains 30 different pieces. Last month the project was invited to be displayed at an art exhibition at the Kaisu in Tokyo.
