NYC Yellow Cabs Are Expanding An Uber Pool-Like Service
The partnership between Curb and Via plans to drive through Queens and Brooklyn
Curb, the taxi app that allows people to easily request and pay for rides, partnered with Via, a leading developer of on-demand shared ride services, to allow New Yorkers the ability to hail and share a ride in a yellow cab.
Using either app, a passenger simply meets the driver at a nearby corner and is then connected to an additional passenger along the way who shares a similar route. The app no doubt helps people get to where they need to be, but it also gives the taxi fleet the opportunity to move a higher volume of riders and compete in the busy pool of transportation providers.
The service originally launched in Midtown, Upper West Side and Upper East Side, then expanded to all of Manhattan below 127 Street and is now planning its fall expansion to Queens and Brooklyn.
