Virgin Trains Billboards Compare Railroad Journeys With The Road
The campaign aims to show drivers stuck in traffic that rail is often faster than road
What’s the best way to convince a driver to take the train? For Virgin Trains, it’s putting a big billboard in front of drivers stuck in traffic with real-time estimates of travel times to London for car and train (as you might guess, train is faster).
Virgin Trains created the campaign with Anomaly and Grand Visual. It went live on September 11 with billboards in London, Birmingham and Leeds. The target is none other than driving commuters, and the point of it all is to make them consider whether taking their car might actually be worse than taking the train.
The signs are operated by OpenLoop. The billboards show real-time geo data of the travel time from their locations by train and car. It’s a good way of showing commuters that taking Virgin Trains is a quick commuting alternative, and the live stats will definitely leave an impression. The campaign will run until October 1.
