The new building drew inspiration from various locations and listed rentals on the website

As Airbnb’s business expands, so does their working facilities to accommodate a larger workforce. The rental lodging company recently added an additional building near their headquarters in San Francisco. The new building features four distinct sections that were inspired by four different parts of the world as a way to display how the lodgings company operates around the world at all times. The facility was worked on by local architecture firm WRNS Studio and Airbnb’s Environments team.

The four-storied building was stripped of its many internal structures, save for the ones keeping it up, to make room for all of the new installations the architecture team designed. Each of the floors were constructed with a theme on every floor and in every meeting room. The themes found on the floors include materials and colors found in Buenos Aires, Kyoto, Jaipur, and Amsterdam. Inside of the meeting rooms, the architects and Environments team drew inspiration from locations listed on Airbnb. For example, the team found someone on the website offering rooms for a castle in Britain. The team grabbed similarly colored sofas and Victorian styled window treatments to have the meeting room to match the rented site as closely as possible.

Broken down even further, the building features 16 identical neighborhoods with their own meeting room, phone room, and an open working area for employees to work in a more social environment. Employees who want to find a little more privacy can migrate to the top floor where they can find a location appropriately named The Boat. It looks like a large ark landed in the building with individual holes carved into the sides for employees to settle into, hiding away from the world to get privacy they need to get work done.

Airbnb wanted their new building to feature as many unique locations as possible to fulfill the company’s overall philosophy of cultures coming together. When a visitor rents at Airbnb, they get introduced to a brand new lifestyle they don’t feel accustomed to. While uneasy at first, Airbnb wanted their visitors to travel to a new location and feel at home.

The main Airbnb headquarters is located at 888 Brannan, and the new working facility was redesigned up at the road at 999 Brannan Street.
