The selfie-specific products have been successful in Asia with a price tag of over $900

As smartphones continue to improve their camera quality, compact cameras don't really have a chance. Demand has plummeted in this market, for the most part. Surprisingly enough, Casio has continued to expand one of its compact camera lines, the TR series. These cameras are a little different from others because their purpose centers around helping people take the possible best selfies. The design is reflective of this goal, with a new selfie camera model that looks like a compact makeup case.

Previous models have sold for nearly $800 but the new camera, TR Mini, is now available for about $500. The target population is the same as it has always been: young women in China. The features include eight LED lights that illuminate faces and camera modes such as ‘Sculpt' and ‘Slim' that help users have more control over how their pictures turn out. The screen is also touchscreen. The TR Mini also can upload pictures automatically to a user's phone over Bluetooth so they can be easily shared over social media.

This series has been successful in this specific market, but the company does not expect to expand or reach out to any outside of the region. Casio credits its success to thoroughly understanding its target audience and developing marketing strategies and products with this knowledge.
