Salomon put 12 years of work into creating running shoes that fit uniquely for any athlete

Salomon recently launched a new product that has been the works for a number of years. The brand created running shoes that are fitted for any individual, instead of the other way around. Athletes often have to “break into” their shoes, taking time to get used to any shoe’s design and function. Salomon wants to reverse this methodology and have the shoe fit the athlete. They unveiled their product by creating a shoe for Lucy the Australopithecus, the early human discovered as a fossil.

S/LAB ME:sh is a new type of running shoe shaped by a team of engineers, designers and athletes. Each shoe is designed considering the anatomy of the athlete’s foot shape, biomechanics, running style, terrain, usage and objectives. In launching the campaign, a collaboration with Kinship, using Lucy, Salomon wanted to show how far its technology and thinking goes.

Lucy is a far cry from a typical human’s anatomy today, but fitting a shoe for her proves that it is possible to create a shoe that fits anyone. It also was a nod to evolution and innovation.
