Scott Jarvie created two unique rugs that make it look as if a hole opened up in the middle of a home

How to turn an ordinary living room into a conversational piece? Add the void rug to make it look like a hole was cut in the middle of the room. This optical illusion piece was created by Scott Jarvie, a Scottish multidisciplinary artist.

Jarvie was able to create the rug by carefully considering the perspective of the viewer, the light of the room and the rug’s texture compared to the floor. To help sell the piece, a grey outline was placed around the side to give it the appearance of a real hole. Unfortunately, the illusion gets ruined as the individual gets closer to the void rug, but when they take their first glance into the room they can get fooled into not wanting to step closer. Jarvie also created a rectangular model designed for hallways.
