Son of a Tailor creates bespoke T-shirts that cut down on clothing waste

As a guy currently not in the possession of a modelesque body, it can actually be quite hard to find a simple T-shirt at many shops, where the clothing is all mass produced and based on generic sample sizes. Son of a Tailor is a Copenhagen-based brand that takes simple, high-quality garments seriously, producing made-to-order clothing that is unique to each customer.

Using the company’s website, customers can customize their own shirt to their liking, including the type of fabric, color, neckline, sleeves and pockets. Once this is done, the customer is then sized using an algorithm that takes into account height, weight, age and shoe size to craft a custom body profile. The metrics of this profile are then translated into a unique T-shirt pattern, which is then made into ‘the perfect T-shirt’ for you.

As opposed to the way most modern clothing is made, using only five or six generic shirt patterns, Son of a Tailor’s algorithm ensures that no two shirts are exactly alike. Each shirt is also hand-sewn by professionals at the company’s facilities in Europe to ensure the best results while maintaining high-standard working conditions for all their employees. To further make each shirt feel special, the hang tag is signed by the person who made it, addressed to the person receiving it.

As each shirt is made to order, the company doesn’t need to keep any stock, meaning that there is no clothing going to waste. The company also says that because each shirt is custom made, they have a much lower return rate than the industry standard, with only 5 percent of customers sending back what they ordered.

Son of a Tailor ships worldwide and offers both short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirts for men. While not cheap (a T-shirt will run you between $40 and $60), it is certainly a more ethical choice than shopping fast fashion, and the price could be well worth it for the extremely detail-oriented customer who wants the perfect fit.
