The brand has thinks it has found a faster, cheaper way of putting together custom sneakers

ASICS has found a method of fusing together unique materials to create custom shoes within its retail stores. And instead of hours to weeks of waiting time, it only takes about 15 seconds to churn out the perfect pair. The process, called Soles in Seconds, uses microwave technology and was co-developed by the sportswear brand with Tayin Research and Development Company.

While it is still in an internal trial stage, the idea stands out. The quarter of a minute it takes to build a pair of sneakers means it's more suited to high demand. Plus, it consumes less energy than methods like 3D printing or laser sintering. Custom footwear has seen its challenges, especially in performance gear, and quality custom sports shoes are often reserved for elite athletes as promotional stunts.
