The IoT mugs let customers return the cups to any participating store, regardless of where they bought their coffee

Calling all coffee lovers in London: It’s time to stop the never-ending coffee cup waste and turn to a sustainable solution. No, you won’t be asked to bring your own coffee mug; Cup Club just wants you to return the cups after drinking your delicious coffee.

Cup Club created a reusable coffee cup system in which all coffee cups are returned to any participating shop, regardless of where the customer purchased the coffee, and reused. It works by coffee shops or retailers registering for Cup Club and then using the provided smart cups, which are equipped with RFID and IoT technology.

When a shop sells coffee to a customer, the customer will be informed about the drop-off points where they return their cups. The smart cups will then go through high-tech washing hubs and then be delivered back to the coffee shops for reuse. The Cup Club has been tested in London locations and will officially roll out in 2018.
