The designs for the new gear will let golfers track ball stats and feedback to improve their game

Nike has recently filed a patent for a headset specifically geared towards golf players to help them track a ball’s speed, trajectory and even the spin. According to the filed patent, more than a headset, it looks like a really smart pair of glasses that is able to read and display stats in real-time. This will be the first time AR is used in sports to track a ball and could be the forefront of this kind of technology.

Golfers are able to get feedback and analyze their shots immediately. Information provided includes how far the ball has gone, how long it is in the air and the distance to the hole. The technology even allows it to give golfers advice on what kind of club is the best option pending on their location from the hole. It also gives insight as to what the terrain is like, giving golfers even more information to make the right decisions.

Even crazier, if a golfer also uses a ‘smart’ ball, there are even more factors golfers can be informed of. This includes more information about their actual swing and more specifics about the terrain. The glasses would display all this information and also asses the risk of using certain clubs and a display of the terrain.

Although not yet developed, this kind of technology could pave the way to more interesting and informed golfing. Although, it may make the playing field a little unfair for those without access to this technology.
