Researchers are leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to predict people's cardiovascular risk by scanning their retinas

Google researchers created AI that potentially can predict if a patient will experience a heart attack or stroke just by looking into his or her eyes. Using research showing how retinal blood vessels can provide a clue to heart health, Google created AI that can study images of eyes to predict if someone might experience any cardiovascular health problems in the next five years.

The findings were presented in Nature Biomedical Engineering. Google states that its AI can predict these health problems in a less invasive way that is as accurate as other methods. While the tech giant is still planning to optimize the AI further, it hopes that this technology will increase the number of early diagnoses and prevent people from falling ill to cardiovascular health issues.
