KaDeTe is a supermarket concept that allows consumers to try new products while providing young brands with market research

KaDeTe is the world’s first supermarket of new products from startups that consumers won’t find elsewhere: the items are ones that haven’t yet reached wholesale or retail, or only just barely.

The name stands for Kaufhaus des Testens (testing store) and is a play on Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe), a famous Berlin department store. While the store will allow consumers to buy and test innovative products as well as permit easier market entry for smaller brands, that’s only half the story: KaDeTe also aims to provide key data for its startups and their potential partners or investors by having consumers participate in market research studies and collecting statistics to help the manufacturers improve their products.

The store is set to open at the Wilmersdorfer Arcaden shopping center on March 17.
