Today's leading travel brands are delivering curated, seamless and empowered experiences—and a few are achieving on multiple levels

In today’s travel landscape, it is critical that companies branch out from their traditionally siloed, core offerings to provide 360-degree services at every stage of the journey, through a multi-channel, always-on approach. To better understand the modern travel landscape, PSFK researchers mapped out the Travel 2.0 consumer journey at every touchpoint, from the planning to transit to in-stay to added value stages.

As part of this process, we pulled together a list of the best and most compelling travel brands creating experiences now. These brands were then organized into a map of the contemporary competitive travel landscape, demonstrating which brands are excelling in delivering on the new travel experience and how:

These brands can be organized according to three principles:

  • Seamless: Creating experiences that are effortless and easy for travelers, including booking through fulfillment.
  • Curated: Taking into account unique preferences of each individual traveler to deliver more personalized packages.
  • Empowered: Giving travelers the ability to take charge of their own plans, easily tailoring every aspect of their journey through simple tools.

What did we find? Forward thinking and tech-first brand Airbnb is doing a great job of meeting all three. Airlines are biasing towards delivering empowerment and seamlessness, while hotels and other hospitality brands are leaning more heavily towards curation, with some delivering more seamless experiences than others.
