Ji Lee, creative lead at Facebook Creative Shop and PSFK 2017 conference speaker, found a creative way to use the social media platform as a personal portfolio site

As a creative lead at Facebook Creative Shop, Ji Lee knows how powerful a tool social media can be. And we saw how he is able to rethink social platforms as a way to tell stories when he spoke at our PSFK 2017 conference. Now, the designer has revealed a new use of Instagram: as a personal design portfolio site.

He used the grid of Instagram’s UI as the foundation for his portfolio, with each post on the grid serving as a menu for a particular project. Each post has tags that link out to other Instagram accounts, where Lee is constantly updating his work. The posts are all labeled, which makes navigation simple, and he also tags the posts with his other accounts, so viewers can explore projects in more detail.

The conversation around social media has recently been almost exclusively about privacy; however a project such as this reminds us that with a bit of creative thinking and design knowledge, one can find an entirely new purpose and fresh perspective on a commonly used platform. Check out Lee’s full talk from PSFK 2017 in the video below.
