The beer brand partnered with whiskey producer Jim Beam to create a special brew aged in bourbon barrels

Budweiser is teaming up with Jim Beam, internationally known for its Kentucky-based whiskey, to release a limited-edition beer aged in the style of Beam’s famous bourbon. Called Reserve Copper Lager, the brew is distinct in that it will age on bourbon staves (the wooden beams that compose beer barrels), giving it a special whiskey influence.

The lager is set to release in September of this year and marks a new kind of collaboration for the two brands. However, the partnership is actually joining a trend in the alcohol industry of new brews that blur the line between traditional liqueurs and beers, like Corona’s plan to launch a new beer called Western Standard that is likewise aged in bourbon barrels. Regardless, Budweiser and Beam hope that their collaborative product will be mutually beneficial, giving the former a competitive edge in the beer market edge while expanding the latter’s target audience.
