The supermarket chain designed a sustainable shopping bag that includes a discount code to incentivize customers to reduce plastic waste

In Malaysia, grocery chain Tesco designed a reusable shopping bag to help reduce plastic waste, and encouraged shoppers to use it by embedding a discount barcode in the design. The code offers customers savings on their shopping every time they use the bag, helping to incentivize people to reduce their contributions to the plastic that is polluting the oceans and harming sea creatures like fish, turtles and whales.

Tesco partnered with Grey Group Malaysia to design the product, dubbed “The Unforgettable Bag,” available in three motifs that each feature a different sea animal affected by plastic pollution. The bag launched ahead of this year’s World Earth Day on April 22, and aims to raise awareness of the problem that the trillions of wasted plastic bags pose to our oceans.
