Songwriters Fonts created five typefaces based on the handwriting of musical legends, including John Lennon, David Bowie and Kurt Cobain

Imagine writing your work in the lettering of some of the greatest musicians of all time. French graphic designer Nicolas Damiens and copywriter Julien Sans created a design project that let users type in the handwriting of some of the greatest songwriters of all time. Songwriters Fonts comprised five fonts based on five legendary musicians: Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain and Serge Gainsbourg. The fonts were created by researching the handwritten notes and materials and using them as models for the typeface.

Unfortunately, because the project violated intellectual property rights, the fonts have been removed. On the website, the creators write, “The unique purpose of this was to inspire musicians and the next generation of songwriters to put their imagination at work.” Still, there is plenty of design inspiration to be found in the legacies these musicians left behind.
