Colin Beavan, PSFK conference speaker and author of No Impact Man and How to Be Alive, shares the unexpected secret to success
Countless books, blogs and talk shows have been devoted to finding the keys to success. Two-time PSFK conference speaker Colin Beavan, author of No Impact Man and How to Be Alive, has a more hands-on and human view than many of them. He shares his insights on meaningful living with audiences around the world—and soon, again with PSFK when he leads a roundtable discussion at our CXI 2018 conference on May 18. He told last year’s attendees:
Every society has its myth. Part of our mythology is that there are three things that we have to chase after, and if we chase after them, we’ll be happy. Those things are the right career, the right romantic relationship and the right stuff, which includes your house. If you just get those three things right, you’ll be happy. Two problems: one, it’s increasingly hard to get those things, and two, it’s not true!
Colin goes on to explain what he found from an in-depth study of these ideas: The real key to success is having friends—more specifically, an interconnected personal community. Watch Colin’s talk below, and explore this subject further with him at CXI 2018.
