These Interactive Stories Help Relieve Travelers’ Anxieties

Landing Pages will be the first in a series of art installations at LaGuardia's Marine Terminal, aimed at not only entertaining but also helping to refocus travelers in the hopes of easing their nerves

The airport can be a very stressful place for travelers for a variety of reasons, especially in particularly hectic terminals like those of New York City’s LaGuardia Airport. This is why LaGuardia’s Marine Terminal has teamed up with Landing Pages to create an art program that can both entertain flyers as well as relieve some of their tension.

While the program is creative, it is also quite simple: Prior to their flight, travelers visit the Landing Pages kiosk to request one of their short stories for their mobile device. While they are in the air, authors Lexie Smith and Gideon Jacobs produce a narrative that is delivered to passengers upon their plane’s landing. The length of the story can vary depending on the length of the flight.

The stories come in different forms such as poetry, fiction or illustration, and are informed by a desire on the part of the authors to help bring peace and enjoyment to the frenetic environment of air travel. By offering these stories to its passengers, LaGuardia is hoping to replace the anxiety of flying with anticipation of reading the story to come, using art to improve the consumer experience.
