Hotel chain gets into Airbnb territory by adding 200 vetted private UK homes to the world's biggest room booking site

Marriott International is making a play in the very industry that disrupted the hotel business by entering the home-sharing market in London, in partnership with Hostmaker, a home rental management company.

Initially slated as a six-month trial, Marriott will use its Tribute Portfolio brand to market the houses. Travelers can use the platform to make a reservation from among the initial 200 homes in the London area.

Guests can rest easy knowing that each of the homes was vetted by Marriott and had to meet a rigorous set of standards. In addition, guests will also benefit from an in-person welcome, 24/7 phone support and the oversight Marriott provides. Travelers will also be able to earn Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest points for their stay.
