MedMen is pushing hard for the continued legalization and de-stigmatization of marijuana, focusing on the quality and transparency of their products and providing cannabis education

MedMen, a California-based legal cannabis company, is focused on smashing the stigma attached to marijuana usage and portraying the substance in an entirely new light by developing its production and sales for the mainstream.

MedMen is aiming to effect change through a number of parameters. First, the company focuses on quality, detailing on its website the technology that it implements, claiming to have “highly-efficient growing facilities using the latest in agronomic technology and sustainable techniques,” alongside “manufacturing facilities [that] use standards comparable to those in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.” MedMen is also taking on an activist role by doing its part to continue fighting for the legalization of cannabis. The company donates to pro-legalization groups and political candidates who are in favor of marijuana legalization.

As of now, MedMen has 18 facilities in the U.S. where it employs over 700 people across three states (California, Nevada and New York), and as the company is fighting hard to end the stigma surrounding marijuana, it makes it very clear that it “does not run pot shops.” Instead, it runs retail shops that “happen to sell marijuana and marijuana products.”

One particularly important thing that MedMen is able to offer consumers is transparency regarding the products that they are about to purchase. Whereas people previously had to purchase marijuana illegally with no real idea of what they were receiving, MedMen offers customers iPads with information about each individual product and the effect that it will have on the person taking it. Customers purchasing from MedMen can rest assured that the products are following strict regulatory standards and are never sourced from “underground growers” who could be using potentially dangerous toxins in their products.

The company focuses heavily on educating its employees so that they can be of the utmost service to the customers, going as far as to put each individual employee through a training course where they are educated about the history of cannabis, product information and legal rules and regulations. And it’s important for the employees to be educated, because they are offering a unique array of products, including edibles and even a non-psychoactive CBD bath bomb.

MedMen is particularly interesting because legal recreational marijuana usage is so new to the United States, and still fairly limited in its reach. While the stigma attached to the drug is beginning to wane, it is not yet completely mainstream. MedMen holds the potential to continue to bring the recreational usage of the drug into the mainstream and to do so completely legally. By having such a direct focus on quality and attention to the consumer experience, the company is taking very important first steps in de-stigmatizing the drug and smashing the stereotypes around cannabis use.
