Legacy brands have long defined Manhattan’s Midtown, and the streets of SoHo have become synonymous with shopping. But as storied as it is, the New York retail scene is also characterized by transformation. Whether in the central, bustling Chelsea and Flatiron districts or the millennial playground of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, independent boutiques and big names alike are raising the bar for brick-and-mortar with experiential elements. These five destinations, from PSFK’s 2018 NYC Retail Guide, are among a class of retailers delivering inspired, next-level customer experiences in the commercial metropolis.

MIDTOWN: Nordstrom Men’s Store

The chain department retailer’s men’s clothing store combines cutting-edge technology and traditional, 1:1 service to drive meaningful interactions and set itself apart from other department stores. With same-day deliveries, on-site tailors, a self-service return bin and digital tablets to check online inventory, Nordstrom’s store ensures that shopping is seamless and value-centric.

Tips For Your Visit:

  • Need to purchase a shirt at midnight? Call 917.734.0133 and a staff associate will bring your order, no matter the time.
  • Ask for Nordstrom’s complimentary personal styling service, where they create a digital Style Board with personalized recommendations that can be sent to your mobile phone.
  • Stay tuned for the Nordstrom’s women’s store, set to open in Fall 2019 across the street.

The Wonder Photoshop’s DIY Lounge allows customers to receive expert advice from store associates or designated lecturers.

Tips For Your Visit:

  • Snap a custom pic with personalized backgrounds and templates at the photo booth.
  • Order a large-size print from the in-store photography lab.
  • Grab a complimentary cup of coffee while you shop or wait for prints to be made.

SOHO: Gucci Wooster

The luxury brand’s SoHo location pays homage to its youthful, digitally-native audience with an Instagram-friendly interior and connected features in its expansive 10,000-square-foot storefront. Associates with iPads, referred to as ‘Gucci Connectors,’ are situated at the front of the store to optimize customer service, while customers can use an AR-enabled app to see how custom lettering will look on a bag.
