One of the first components of wellness to take a hit when traveling is sleep, even in first-class environments. From notoriously uncomfortable planes to dehydrating recycled air and noisy environments, shut-eye can be hard to come by when on the go.

This is why certain brands are now creating high quality pillows and sleepwear to offer consumers a luxurious traveling sleep experience. Here are four ways that companies are helping to optimize the luxury traveler’s sleep routine:

Casper
New York City-based mattress company Casper is teaming up with American Airlines to offer new in-flight sleeping products. According to American Airlines, the products offered will include a mattress pad, pajamas, slippers, a lumbar pillow, a standard pillow, a duvet and a day blanket. Casper’s amenities will be provided for First or Business Class and Premium economy on long-haul international flights, transcontinental flights, certain domestic flights and flights to particular locations in the northern rim of South America.

Quantas
Qantas teamed up with Australian airline Sheridan to offer a pillow menu to make its first-class travel even more comfortable. Consumers can choose from three pillow styles to first-class passengers, in addition to premium sheets and bedding. Customers can also select the Ultimate Comfort Pillow (superior head and neck support), the Deluxe Memory Foam Pillow (personalized comfort) or the Deluxe Feather & Down Pillow (50/50 blend of white goose down and feathers). Apart from the pillow menu, Qantas provides passengers with an air foam mattress that helps relieve pressure points during long flights.

Matrix
Design and sourcing agency Matrix designs formed a partnership between British Airways and The White Company to design onboard bedding and amenities that airlines can use to help give passengers a comfortable night’s sleep to minimise the effects of dehydration and exhaustion. British Airways Club World flyers travelling between Heathrow and New York’s JFK will receive a whole new suite of products including pillows, cushions, blankets, and other items that have been crafted to achieve the height of comfort.

Cabin
San Francisco-based startup Cabin aims to kill sleeplessness aboard its double-decker megabus mobiles. Outfitted with up to 24 sleeping pods, a lounge space, restrooms, and Wi-Fi, each bedding arrangement is further decorated with fluffy pillows, resort-style mattresses, comforters, outlets, 36-inch overhead clearances, reading lights, AC vents, personal windows, socks, earplugs, curtains for privacy, and melatonin-infused ‘Dream Water,’ all of which are said to resemble the sleeping nooks aboard a long-haul Virgin Australia flight.

Sleeping well while traveling in style is just one way that brands are finding creative ways to improve people’s health and wellness. For more information on innovation within the sleep and wellness realm, see PSFK’s report Refining The Sleep And Wellness Routine.
