Airbnb Hosts Can Now Grant Access To Their Homes With An App
The partnership between Airbnb and August locks eliminates the need for meet-ups between hosts and renters, optimizing convenience and safety for all involved in the home-rental process
While Airbnb has revolutionized the travel industry, there are certain inconveniences that come along with regular people acting as hoteliers. The service has teamed up with lock-maker August Home in an attempt to solve one of these problems.
The key exchange involved with the home-rental service can sometimes pose problem, as the process requires a meeting between the homeowner and the renter. The Airbnb-August Home partnership has a solution to this problem in the form of a pin code the renter can punch into a keypad or access via mobile app.
Many of the property owners do not live in the same town as the property, which can make scheduling a meet-up difficult. Since the lock is electronic, the owner can set the access for only as long as the guest is staying. This procedure also eliminates the possibility of a lost key as well as prevents renters from unofficially extending their stay, since the code can be set to expire. Overall, offering app-based entry provides not only convenience to the renter, but also added safety for both parties, helping optimize the Airbnb experience.
