Players collect cryptocurrency called Buff Coins that can be exchanged for prizes from various brands, allowing users a richer virtual community and experience based around a decentralized platform

Gaming platform Buff, based in Israel, will introduce a blockchain loyalty program called Buff Coins later this summer. For the new cryptocurrency effort, the company has joined forces with Overwolf, which specializes in creating in-game features that appear as overlays and don't interrupt game play.

Currently, Buff already has a program in place that rewards gamers of all experience levels just for playing, allowing them to receive virtual prizes from various brands as they hit milestones and reach achievements. The Buff Coins initiative will simply add another layer, seamlessly gifting players with the cryptocurrency as they move through their favorite games. They can then trade in their coins for in-game products that span different platforms.

Through the partnership with Overwolf, Buff can also analyze player activity within hundreds of the games on their platform, like Call of Duty and FIFA 18, to inform future rewards systems and loyalty programs. Buff's crypto initiative showcases the consumer desire to flesh out decentralized and community-based loyalty programs, allowing users greater engagement and interaction in their virtual world.
