At the robotic bar designed for cruise ships and hotels, patrons can craft their own concoctions or choose from a pre-made list

Consumers . Robotic bar company Makr Shakr, an offshoot of the design and innovation studio Carlo Ratti Associati, created a fully automated bar system for the mass market.

Called ‘Nino,' the robotic bartender has two mechanical arms that will whip up the customer's cocktail of choice, which is selected through an app. The first iterations of the bionic bar have been on Royal Caribbean cruise ships and at international hotels and malls.

Besides being efficient and more affordable than previous models, Nino allows the user to be in charge. Patrons are able to choose a cocktail from the menu or opt to master their own creation, selecting the spirits, ingredients and naming the finished product it to their liking.

“Nino explores the new dynamics of social creation and consumption—‘design, make, and enjoy’—allowing users to design their own cocktail creations, while digitally controlled machines transform their ideas into reality,” founder Carlo Ratti told Designboom.

As customers are busy choosing the drink they want, these robotic arms will do the heavy work, operating over 170 bottles. They will also perform all the bartender-like tasks of shaking and pouring, all while entertaining with some dance moves.
