In Brief

Consumers can use Cooklist's app to remember the grocery items that they already have in their kitchens, check the items' expiration dates and find recipe ideas, helping facilitate meal-time prep

Smartphone app Cooklist allows its users to find recipes to make from items already in their kitchens. The app links to consumers’ grocery lists from over 80 grocery retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Costco and Kroger, and uses the store loyalty systems to give customers suggestions on what meals to prepare from the items they recently purchased.

The app also monitors the expiration dates of items users have in their fridge. However, the founders issued a disclaimer that the company only provides standardly-issued expiry information, giving users a general idea of how long their current grocery items will be safe to eat.

Cooklist currently has about 1.3 million recipes in its ever-growing database and is free to download from the App Store. However, the founders are considering upgrading the app to premium, so users might soon have to pay to access this custom-tailored cookbook.

While the custom grocery-to-table recipe app space is already saturated, Cooklist offers users a new interface and multitude of benefits to reduce food waste and to optimize the consumer-grocer experience.
