Gymboree adds augmented reality components to its clothing as it revamps its image to one of quality and innovation, helping drive consumer engagement through mobile interaction

As kids become more tech savvy, they come to expect more from their products and experiences. Children’s apparel brand Gymboree is looking to elevate its apparel to fulfill this consumer desire by creating an augmented reality app that lets kids engage with the clothes they wear.

The Make You Smile app animates the designs on Gymboree select clothing items. The app also creates emojis based on the wearer’s expressions among other playful features. Users can also enter weekly drawings of Gymboree’s Surprize Surprize Sweepstakes, which offers prizes like a trip to New York City, a new car, a $5,000 shopping trip or a backyard playhouse. The sweepstakes runs from July 16 to September 4.

The app is part of a larger rebranding campaign for Gymboree, updating its look and offering new higher quality fabrics and designs as well as revamping its in-store experience. By updating its image, the brand will not only be able to stay on the forefront of technology, but also build a reputation of innovation across multiple generations.
