New Seasons Market, a West-Coast-based independent grocery store chain, is teaming up with Michelin-Star chef Matt Lightner to create a high-end, highly-curated line of meal kits in an effort to refresh the 19-year-old grocer’s brand image.

The brand offers specialty meal kits for all types of diets with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. The meal kits include high-quality ingredients and minimal packaging. Additionally, these meals only take 20-45 minutes for the customer to prepare.

Unlike its competitor services, such as Hello Fresh and Blue Apron, who, according to Lightner, only “teach you the dish,” Lightner’s mission with his meal kits is to “teach you the vegetable.” In other words, New Season Market wants to simultaneously educate its consumers on food, ingredients and cooking while they enjoy the brand’s products.

Consumers value eating healthy, tasty meals prepared out of natural and whole food ingredients. However, many people do not have the desire to take the time to make these nutritious meals themselves. Additionally, consumers increasingly demand brands to highly-curate their offerings to their individual taste preferences.

New Season Market’s line of gourmet meal kits strives to alleviate these consumer pain points by offering customers a convenient way to create refined and healthy meals every day of the week. The brand offers these meal kits in nine locations throughout Oregon and Washington. They will be available at all New Season Market locations by the end of July 2018.
