On July 19, Shipt, an online delivery giant, and Target announced that they are launching same-day delivery services for more than 55,000 grocery, home, electronic and other products to the Greater New York Metro area. Shipt, founded in 2014, understands the modern consumer’s need for convenience. Accordingly, the brand’s new same-day delivery initiative aligns with its ethos.

The delivery service also caters to the consumer need for curated product offerings and custom-tailored services. When ordering on Shipt, members can note preferences, choose a one-hour delivery window and pay for their order all through the app, creating a smooth and efficient buying experience. Additionally, all members are granted free, unlimited delivery for all orders over $35.

In a press release, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Target, John Mulligan said, “Same-day delivery was at the top of our list when we were thinking about ways to make shopping at Target even easier.” He continues, “Shipt’s personalized, customer-focused approach fits perfectly with our commitment to deliver a convenient, exceptional experience and we’re excited to begin offering same-day service to the Greater New York City metro residents.”

This announcement follows Shipt’s recent growth in Upstate New York this past June. Collectively, the collaborative expansion provides over 1.3 million households across the Great New York Metro Area access to its one-hour delivery service. In celebration, new Shipt members who sign up before August 14 will receive an annual membership for only $49 (usually $99). To successfully implement this program, Shipt is looking to hire more than 2,000 more shoppers in the New York City area to handle buyer logistics.

Tangentially, Target plans to offer same-day delivery of its in-store assortment of groceries, household essentials and other products in the region by the 2018 holiday season. By the end of 2018, Target plans to give 65% of U.S. households, in over 180 markets, access to this service. In 2019, the big-box retailer plans expand its same-day delivery offering across all of its product categories.

As modern consumers grow increasingly fickle, CPG companies understand the importance of implementing consistent and convenient delivery services. Through this new initiative, Shipt and Target easily can cultivate and foster loyal relationships with consumers by satisfying their desire for fast and convenient delivery.
