In Brief

The new system, created by Trigo Vision, replaces cashiers and long checkout lines with easy self-serve kiosks and an app

AI start-up Trigo Vision, which was founded and operated by retired members of Israel’s army special forces and intelligence community, designed technology that eliminates the need for grocery store cashiers—instead, cameras and advanced algorithms track both shoppers and products automatically.

When they’re done shopping, customers can simply confirm their purchases at a designated kiosk. If they’re short on time, they can also log into an app upon their arrival, pick up their goods and exit the store without having to complete a physical transaction. The installation of Trigo Vision’s product requires minimal effort, and the system is specifically designed to fit into retail stores.

This isn’t the first time a company has introduced a cashier-free experience, however. Earlier this year, Amazon opened a store in Seattle that utilizes an app to enable grab-and-go purchases. Trigo Vision’s AI-powered technology expands on this concept, and aims to be a formidable competitor in the retail space.
