The footage, filmed by four eagles equipped with 360-degree cameras, is an effort on the part of the Vienna Tourist Board to give tourists a new way to experience the city

Vienna, with its incredible culture and history, has long been renowned as one of Europe’s must-see travel destinations. The Vienna Tourist Board has come up with a clever idea to allow tourist a different way to see the city: through the eyes of a soaring eagle.

The tourist board worked with Red Bull Media House to create the aerial footage. Four eagles were equipped with 360-degree cameras and released from a hot air balloon high above the city. The videos created can be watched by prospective visitors through VR goggles.

According to Vienna Tourist Board CEO Norbert Kettner, “The project was a world first—never before had eagles wearing 360-degree cameras been used to capture footage of a major city.” Vienna had a record number of visitors last year and is looking to keep the momentum going. The videos can be accessed via the Vienna Tourist Board’s website.
