In collaboration with Home Depot, paint maker Behr launched an interactive pop-up shop in New York City this past weekend. In addition to offering an engaging brand activation, the ephemeral store was intended to celebrate the launch of recently released Blueprint, Behr’s paint color of the year for 2019, as well as 15 support colors.

Those who attended the pop-up were the first to be given access to showrooms that were painted with Blueprint, and full of design inspirations. In the showrooms, shoppers were also able to view design elements that accented the space, provided by Home Depot. A select number of New York artisans were chosen to craft goods that were inspired by and painted with the blue hue, demonstrating unique and endless ways to incorporate the paint color for this coming year. Customers were also given the opportunity to take home a free paint sample, or a full gallon of Blueprint paint.

In addition, shoppers were instantly able to purchase any of the hand-crafted items, or the design elements that they viewed in the pop-up on Home Depot’s website through the use of iPads. “[Shoppers] can come into our pop-up shop, and really get inspired by our new Color of the Year…but also have the opportunity to see all the trend colors in real life and consult with our color experts. It’s a nice intersection of tech [experience] and handmade, with the items people have created,” said Jodi Allen, CMO of Behr.

To continue the momentum and inspiration of its pop-up store, Behr is offering several features for customers on its website. For example, the Paint Color Visualizer is intended to give consumers an accurate depiction of what a selected paint color will look like within a space. Customers can either upload an image of their personal space, or choose an image provided by Behr. They can then click on different focus points and objects around the room to insert the paint colors onto that particular point.

This gives consumers the ability to personalize their spaces and avoid the frustrating process that often comes with painting and decorating spaces.

The idea behind the pop-up store was to create an interactive and immersive experience for shoppers, and provide inspiration that consumers would be able to apply to their personal spaces. All contributions made to the company during the pop-up were donated to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which assists injured first responders and service members in the United States.
