Coolhobo is a Shenzen-based mobile app that adds augmented reality technology to the shopping experience. The app intends to offer millennials and Generation Z users, the best of online and offline shopping by merging the convenience of AR with the physical act of cruising the aisles of a grocery store, as detailed in PSFK’s Content & Commerce Debrief.

The app divides its services into three categories: augmented product, augmented store and augmented lifestyle. The first includes product information, tips and cooking suggestions, virtual products that overlay the real ones and even brand history. The second involves AR in-store navigation, a virtual 3D shopping assistant and the shortest shopping route based on your list. The third category offers an immersive virtual environment including gaming, coupons, reviews and ratings, and special shopping communities, such as vegan or vegetarian groups.

Coolhobo speaks to current trends surrounding integrating mobile technology into shopping experiences, already very popular in China, while also marking a creative way to merge the gap between online and in-store shopping.
