DoorDash launched a member-based pass in an effort to increase frequency of orders, offering customers free delivery with a membership priced at $9.99 per month

Food delivery service DoorDash is entering into the subscription game with a delivery service for restaurants in California, Texas and the Midwest. For $9.99 a month, customers will receive free delivery from a host of participating restaurants in a catchment area on orders of $15 or more.

Called DashPass, the service will allow customers to avoid the regular delivery fees that range from $2.99 to $5.99. The goal of the initiative is to increase the frequency of orders from customers— when the service was piloted in Texas and California, DoorDash reports that the average participant increased their order frequency by 50% and saved $20 a month. The company states that the membership will pay for itself with three orders per month and can be cancelled at anytime, making it a convenient and cost-saving option for customers.

Restaurants that are participating in DashPass include chains such as Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen and Jack in the Box as well as some local restaurants like Chicago’s Big Star. DoorDash  hopes that this offer will set its service apart from the myriad delivery options—Seamless, GrubHub, Uber Eats, Postmates, Delivery.com, Caviar and more—available today.
