With Getaround, vehicle owners can offset ownership costs while those who need a car can easily rent one from their neighbor, helping to reduce congestion and pollution in the meantime

Carsharing platform Getaround allows drivers to rent cars by hourly or daily fees from vehicle owners in their area. The company recently expanded to offer the service in Philadelphia, making it available in 11 cities nationwide.

The platform advertises that participating drivers can make $1000s per year renting out their vehicles. While other apps like Turo provide similar car rental services, Getaround differentiates itself by offering Getaround Connect, a feature installed in participating cars that allows the vehicle to be remotely unlocked to facilitate key drop-off and pick-up.

The brand emphasizes the environmental aspects of carsharing, ensuring that instead of putting extra cars on the road, drivers who aren’t using their own can loan it to someone who needs it and earn some cash while doing so. Getaround explains, “According to a study by the University of California Transportation Sustainability Research Center, every shared car takes about 10 personal vehicles out of gridlock, alleviating congestion and reducing carbon emissions,” highlighting not only the sustainability benefits of its service but also the potential to improve traffic circulation.
