Lush Gives Free Coffee To Shoppers Who Use Their Own Cup

The cosmetics retailer Lush is partnering with a homelessness charity to create a pop-up activation encouraging people to ditch single-use coffee cups

There has recently been a major global movement aimed at reducing the use of plastic. In the U.S. alone, numerous cities have moved to ban the use of plastic straws. The entire country of Australia has banned plastic shopping bags. Now, London based cosmetic retailer Lush is further incentivizing its customers to eliminate single-use coffee cups.

Lush will be holding an activation focused on the use of plastic. Visitors will be offered a free cup of coffee or tea and encouraged to discuss the value of carrying their own cups while they sip on their beverage. Bringing one’s own cup is a requirement to receive a free beverage, but there also will be reusable cups available for sale.

Lush, who is partnering with homelessness charity Change Please, explains that the experience fits with its brand and its commitment to sustainability. According to Lush studio manager Michael O’Brien, “Reducing our reliance on plastic has been at the forefront of Lush’s innovations for the last 23 years.”

Many of today’s consumers are very concerned about the use of plastic and are willing to eschew convenience for the better of the environment, and Lush aims to align itself with these values. The activation will run from August 14 to September 7.
