Travelers who are booking dinner reservations, a hotel room or a flight online can often want to be more specific about their search than the website allows. Mezi, recently purchased by American Express, is an AI-based virtual travel assistant that allows customers to text in-depth questions to the bot to find exactly what they are looking for.

While the chatbot Mezi originally provided multiple services, its makers decided for its focus to be on travel only once they noticed that requests grew three times faster in the category than in personal shopping. Mezi works differently from other bots by using deep-learning technology, meaning that as the client uses the service more, the app notes their preferences and becomes increasingly effective at making suggestions.

One of the main aims of Mezi is to save its users time by combining multiple features into one app. The service strives to be particularly useful for business travelers who have to book hotels and flights without much advanced planning. The virtual assistant can be downloaded via multiple platforms.
