Called Meet the Voxels, the show was created in a gaming engine and will feature a family of video-game characters

Video games continue to retain their popularity among the under-18 set. Games like Minecraft and Overwatch have enjoyed immense success while Fortnite has become a worldwide phenomenon. Nickelodeon is taking inspiration from these gaming hits in its soon-to-launch original program called Meet the Voxels.

The show will follow the adventures of a family composed of characters from different video games. The makers, who created the show in a game engine, have focused on the use of techniques such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and full-body and facial performance capture to produce immersive story telling.

According to Nickelodeon’s Chris Young, “We designed this next-gen animation workflow and filled it with characters who can exist naturally across multiple platforms from day one.” The network is currently creating a pilot that is slated to debut soon.
