Royal Caribbean's SoundSeeker combines images and distinctive songs to create custom virtual cruise souvenirs

Cruise line Royal Caribbean is helping passengers take their favorite vacation photos to the next level with some assistance from artificial intelligence and the Berklee College of Music. The tool, called SoundSeeker, assembles a personalized video slideshow of kaleidoscope-style images and overlays a unique soundtrack that matches the mood of the pictures.

To get started, users visit the tool’s website and upload three images, which are then scanned, visually styled and paired with a custom-made track. To determine the appropriate type of music for each video, Berklee faculty and staff evaluated more than two million combinations of songs and moods, which the AI capability will match for each video.

Users are encouraged to share the finished product with their networks on social media, as the photos are branded with Royal Caribbean’s logo. The initiative is all part of the company’s latest push to engage tech-savvy families and refresh the image of the cruise industry.
